Paddy Chayefsky (1923-1981) was an American playwright, novelist and screenwriter. Perhaps best known as a screenwriter, Chayefsky won three Academy Awards for Best Screenplay for his films Marty (1955), The Hospital (1971) and Network (1976). As well as his work in films and television, Chayefsky wrote a number of plays for the stage including Gideon, Middle of the Night, The Passion of Josef D., and The Tenth Man.
